Journalism

For the last ten years, Laurence has been publishing long-form feature essays, columns, and reviews for the national press on both sides of the Atlantic. Much of his writing has focused on the new feelings, ethics, customs, and ironies of the digital revolution – with pieces on influencers, internet hoaxes, emojis, GIFs, and ASMR – but he has also written essays on Big Brother, E.M. Forster, Postman Pat, Virginia Woolf, Charles Dickens, Escape Rooms, the Danse Macabre, and American diners. His academic expertise focuses on the urban literature of London and Paris. Whenever he is allowed to, he writes about tennis.

Shortly after The Four-Dimensional Human was named a WIRED non-fiction book of the decade, Laurence became a regular columnist with the magazine. Check out the column, called ‘Slow Internet’, here.
